Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

All well but very wet, eating the flowering gorse.

    Sunday, 15 January 2023

    Thurs 12 Jan 2024

Seen three of the four, thankfully not too far in past the gate. Grazing happily but looking a bit soggy. No sign of 227 today, probably deeper in the shurb.

    Saturday, 14 January 2023

     Sat 14 Jan

    None spotted today.

Took some time to find - all 4 ok grazing in the thick gorse on the corner of the pine plantation / old rubbish dump. Not an area where they have spent any time before. Square D9 on the Lookers Map.

    Friday 13 January

Sorry for late blog...i saw all four yesterday and also noted 231 being a bit hippy.

    Friday, 13 January 2023

    Friday 13th Jan

All seen and looking good. 231 is starting to lose a tiny bit of condition but looking very healthy still. The potential issue with the drink fence looks fine to me but definitely worth bringing up. Will keep an eye on it as the water level drops to see if it becomes a future problem.

    Wednesday, 11 January 2023

    wed 11th jan

Walked along the canal path and saw one in the gorse, so assume the others were nearby.

    Tuesday, 10 January 2023

    All well

Cattle over towards the gate this morning, looking very wet but happily munching away.  All looking fine.

    Potential fence problem

Noticed out walking that the fence across the stream to create a watering hole is only just surviving following the winter rain. Whilst the cattle are unlikely to escape at the moment due to the water depth. When the water level drops…..

    Monday 9 January

Found all four around the path by the north stream drinking area. All well. Thanks for the suggestions about searching...coming from Pondtail Road i come down the track and then down the newer wide clearing, then into the central area but beyond that im defeated by the gorse so i go either along the canal towpath or along the cattle's perimeter path but that is alo a scramble through trees. i havent seen this group by the path behind the houses from the canal.

    Saturday, 7 January 2023

     SATURDAY 7th JANUARY

They have come out of hiding today - all 4 eating well in the SE Corner near the Canal weir.

    Friday, 6 January 2023

I too have struggled to find them and have adopted a “search pattern” to try and save trudging through the  mud to no avail.

Starting at the railway sleeper bridge over the Gelvert Stream (where the “please shut the gate” sign is with the picture of a cow) I cross the bridge, turn right and walk up the wide track towards the canal with the stream on my right.

A bit over half-way to the canal there are some stepping stones across the stream (currently submerged) and a gate on the other side of the stream which leads to Marlborough Close.

I don’t cross the stream but stay on the main track to the canal but from this point on the cattle can sometimes be spotted on the right - deep in the gorse on the other side of the stream. They seem to have taken a liking to this spot of late and it’s impossible to see them from anywhere else.

If I don’t spot them there I keep walking towards the canal - with all the leaves off the trees you can see right through across Canal Heath. If they are there you keep walking to reach the canal towpath, turn right, cross the weir and go immediately right. There is a little path that leads to the gate.

If there is still no sign, I walk the canal towpath back towards Fleet. Sometimes I find them along the fence there. Finally take the little path on the right before the first bungalow in Pondtail and walk down past the Scout Hut to the main 5 bar gate to the Canal Heath. Sometimes the cattle pop up there even though they have been invisible for the past half - hour !

    Friday 6 January

None seen...what am I doing wrong?!!

    Thursday, 5 January 2023

    Thurs 5th Jan 2023

Two seen close up and the other two seen but deep in the gorse. All looked well, up in very top field. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1EHrY7vTTDbXhlo2Ns49aN7hEnsA0cz1uhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1s1Phzn9LwVLjlpJu_uA3juNYX2SxjeVP

    Tuesday, 3 January 2023

    All good, just soggy.

All four up by the canal overflow, munching happily in the pouring rain

    Monday, 2 January 2023

    Monday 2 January
