Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    All good but quite randy

Attempting to mount each other twice whilst I was here ….

    Wednesday, 20 August 2025

    Weds 20th - all good

All 4 grazing around the middle gate. Initially only 2 showing up on No Fence before I left the house, but 3 appeared on the map by the time I got there so I presume it was just loading?

225 was giving 216's ears a lot of licking - not sure what that means! Looked quite affectionate but then 225 chased 216 away, so maybe not. I left after that! Otherwise all seem happy and barely any flies compared to last week.

Tuesday 19th August - Staff Check

Sean and I came down this morning to try and reinstate Gingsengs colllar. Unfortunately she was having none of it even with copious nuts. Neither of us could get near her with the collar or even without it.
The group were a bit wound up and rowdy so we decided to call it.

Will probably have to wait until the batteries need replacing on all before we get the collar back on her.

Apologies, thanks all for your lookering efforts

    Zoe

    Missing collar

All good except that 216 (the white one with black ears) has dropped her collar

    Saturday, 16 August 2025

Saturday 16th - Staff Call Out

Attended the site on Saturday morning after Dalia's collar was stating she wasn't moving. Turns out she had slipped her collar. Me and Micheal then found her and brought her back to the group.

With some gentle persuasion I was able to put the collar back on her. All four cows were good, no issues to report.

    Weds 30th

    My first lookering!

8am - All four towards the southern end of the site, happily grazing. One was a little separate from the others (only had one ear tag and was on the side facing away from me, but I think was 114).

Took a while to find them as I didn't refresh the map properly - will remember for next time!!

    Tuesday, 29 July 2025

Tuesday 29th July - Staff Check

All girls busily grazing in canal side this afternoon.
They've dropped a little condition since I last saw them but nothing to worry about.
There is plenty of forage here for them.

225 and 108 were alternating between smacking each other with their heads, grooming and trying to mount one another
This is typical behaviour, either one or both of them are in oestrus. It can get quite aggressive so please be aware of that when checking and keep a safe distance.

Stream levels are a little higher now which is good.

    Cheers, Zoe

Wednesday 16th July - All good

I was working at nearby Bramshot so I walked down this afternoon to check on the girls.

They were all in the northern end of the site grazing happily, though black and white 108 was a considerable distance from the other three and I had to search for a while to find her. She's missing an ear tag which is now on order.

Stream is very low but still flowing

    All good

     Happily chewing the cud

    Tuesday, 15 July 2025

All seen under the trees in the northern end of the corral end. No eye problems seen, tho obviously lots of flies in the hot weather

    Tuesday, 8 July 2025

    Failed to see them

I could hear them grazing around me but the grouse was so thick I couldn’t see them up to the right of where the stream/ canal meets. 114 pop her head out to say hello briefly but not the others ….

    Tuesday 8th July - Staff Check - 225 eye

All four girls resting in the shade of the woodland nearest Barford close.
225 has a very mild runny eye, I am not concerned just yet but going to keep an eye on it.  They are all looking content and relaxed.

Friday 6th June - Staff Check

All four girls have put on some nice condition since I last saw them and are looking great.

A couple came up for head scratches and are being bothered by some ginormous horse flies so I'll check when they were last fly treated.

Making it easy by being by the fence towards the canal

    Saturday, 31 May 2025

Sat 31st May - staff update

114 escaped into the old bottle dump under the pine trees on Friday evening, discovered and called in by Michael. It was getting dark and she was showing no signs of venturing away from the fenceline so I decided to extend the boundary to give her more space and wait until morning.

I managed to lead her back into the pasture area this morning and have repaired the fence breach (W3W: intro.request.ownership). She's showing no ill effects from her night out and immediately rejoined the other 3 once she was back in.

    Thursday, 29 May 2025

    Thursday 29th May

     Found all 4 munching grass at W3W: locating.booth.coil 11.30am

216 seems to have a small graze and small dark 'bump' on her side, near her left front leg. Possibly a tic? Surrounded by lots of flies. She wasn't keen for me to get close, so these are the best photos I could get.

Visited today as unable to visit on Friday as usual.

    Tuesday, 27 May 2025

Tuesday 27th May - Staff Check

All four girls seen and came up to say hello. Two of them then decided to have a wrestling match so I left them to it...!

    Thursday, 22 May 2025

Thursday 22nd PM - Staff Check

All four girls grazing in the grassy area near the old fire site. Great to see them slowly putting on condition.

I've bashed in some new fence posts and re stapled everything, as they were pushing their heads through to graze the grass on the other side 🙄

I've also brought the no fence fencline further into the site to prevent them doing this and other things like scratching themselves on the field gate/people feeding them from the gate.
The GPS signal here is not 100% accurate but we need to train them that fenceline = no go,  they probably will be receiving warnings via their collars over the next few days as they adjust to it and it may be a few metres in front of the physical fencline. I'll be monitoring via the app but just to let you know.

    Monday, 19 May 2025

Monday 19th May - Staff Check

All dozing by the field gate entrance this morning at 9am. All looking well.

I notice they've been pushing on the fenceline next to the field gate. Ive tweaked the nofence pasture boundary to see if this helps but I'll come back in the next few days to strengthen the fence with new posts.

    Friday, 16 May 2025

    Friday 16th May

Easily located today with the help of Nofence - thank you.

All 4 sunning themselves and chewing the cud. Quite a few pesky flies around. 114 has a slight red smear between their shoulders - probably as a result of a scratch.

Does anyone know their names? (114, 216, 225 and 108).

    W3W: muted.dice.valley   11.10am

    Wednesday, 14 May 2025

Wednesday 14th May - Staff Check

All four happily grazing and on the move. They've put on a bit of condition which is great to see and seem very happy here.  They followed me back to the gate, calling and attracting the attention of several passers by stopped to talk about them.

I'll probably get a sign to remind people not to feed them to put on the field gate. Nobody was today, but given they are quite friendly cows that attract a lot of attention it seems like a good idea.

    Cheers

    Zoe

    Saturday, 10 May 2025
