Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

    Friday, 13 December 2019

    December 13

All well...I blogged in case Carole is still unwell..Get well soon!

    Thursday, 12 December 2019

    December 12

All well. They seem to like the corral section as I have seen them there each day this week. The lick has gone!

    Wednesday, 11 December 2019

    Wednesday 11 December.
Haven’t checked the cows today as am suffering with a flu like virus.

    Tuesday, 10 December 2019

    Tuesday 10th December.

Found the cattle not far from where we have been putting the licks out. All looking well albeit a tad soggy.

Put a fresh lick out for them in the usual spot.

    Monday, 9 December 2019

    December 9

All well, seen in passing the west fence behind Spruce way. They looked as if they were rooting for acorns but I think they e all been squirrelled away or the crop failed.

    Thursday, 5 December 2019

    December 5e

All well around the lick, though the two thinner ones were waiting their turn. The lick is half gone.

    Wednesday, 4 December 2019

3 whites spotted but not the brown one. I sometimes find him difficult to spot because he blends in easily with the brown broken. Carole

    Tuesday, 3 December 2019

All spotted around C3 so dropped off a lick off there nearing the centre.

All looking well barring a couple of the whites looking a lil thinner than the other two, but nothing concerning. They certainly tucked into the Lick!

    Monday, 2 December 2019

    Monday
All merrily munching by the gate near to the ford.

    Thursday, 28 November 2019

    TB Test Complete.

The TB test reads were done this afternoon and I'm happy to report that they're all clear.

I have re-opened the central gate so that the cattle have access to both compartments again and I also put a fresh lick out for them.

    All four looking well today.

    November 28

All well. I removed several putrid, slimy pumpkins complete with night lights from the enclosure. Maybe a notice about not feeding the cattle on the fence towards the canal towpath might help.

    Monday, 25 November 2019

    Staying put for TB Test

Just in case anyone saw the previous post I put up. The four will be staying put for the TB test!
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Sunday, 24 November 2019

    Friday Nov 22
I forgot to post this up. I walked passed the herd a couple of times and found the lick had been thrown over the fence on to the path. I put it back into the field on both occasions.
I am unable to check them on Wednesday so if anyone can step in for me that would be great. TIA
    Carole

    Thursday, 21 November 2019

    November 21

All well. The lick is about three quarters gone and the surround well poached!

    Wednesday, 20 November 2019

    Tuesday avo

Called the cows through into the canal section and shut the gate ready for a TB test.

Also put down a lick for them near 5 bar gate.

    All good.
    Wednesday Nov 20.
All seen at the lick site.
    Carole

    Sunday, 17 November 2019

    Spotted

Spotted 4 by the concrete stands of the old water trough.  All having a scratch and appeared to be well.

    Thursday, 14 November 2019

    November 14

All well by the lick which is what I called the burn site...they were standing around and not so desperate for the lick. 170 still keeping back from the action.

    Wednesday, 13 November 2019

    Wednesday 13 November
All seen by the lick site. All appear well.
    Carole

    Tuesday, 12 November 2019

    Tuesday 12th November.

The cattle had made their way north from when Helen saw them earlier - I encountered them next to the gate that I sorted out last week in the corral section.

I put a fresh lick out for them, just a bit further into the site from where I put one last week as this'll help break up the bracken in that area.

    All looking well.

    November 12

All seen on the frosty burn area...just standing around in the sun. The lick has gone.

    Monday, 11 November 2019

    November 11

Was someone out very early this morning or did I miss the new notice on my way out? I don’t know how big the lick was or when it went in but it’s now down to a sliver! 170 was watching the others...not sure there will be any left for her...they were going at it like lions on a wildebeest!

    Sunday, 10 November 2019

    Sun 10 Nov
    All seen, all looking well.
    Carole

    Friday, 8 November 2019

    Wednesday, 6 November 2019

    Wednesday 6 Nov.
    None seen today.

    Tuesday, 5 November 2019

    Tuesday 5th November.

Found the cattle in the canal section this morning, all in E7 grazing and looking well.

I have put a lick out for them in C3 about 10 metres in from the gate amongst some dead bracken. They've been quite active through that section as there are quite a few of their tracks there so they'll find the lick soon.

I also made a few adjustments to the gate and it now latches ok. If it is left to slam shut it does bounce out of the latch initially but that is just down to the tension from the inner tube that Guy fitted the other day. The gate will latch ok after its initial bounce. I have also put a grazing sign on the gate.

I will be checking the site and cattle again next week so will check on the gate again to make sure it's still working ok.

    Monday, 4 November 2019

    Saturday, 2 November 2019

    November 2ee

All well. The gate is closing well, but a notice would let people know they nd to close it properly as well.

    Friday, 1 November 2019

All in the heath corral section nearest Pondtail rd and wall.

Spoke to several dog walkers and families, all good feedback on the last herd and this one bless'em.

Will need a drill to lower gate furniture to ensure it closes correctly so have wacked on some inner tube in ther interim.

Herd doing well, one of the BW's seems a lil thinner than the other but all fine at the moment. Will ask about getting a lick sent out to them.

    Nov 1st
All seen lying down, chewing the cud, waiting for the rain.
    Carole

    Thursday, 31 October 2019

    October 31

All well. While I was with them by the corral gate, they were harassed by a retriever...they backed away at first but then faced up to it. I gave it the Eye and it retreated.
Is there a notice on the Pondtail gate yet. I forgot to look as I went through. It also doesn’t latch properly though it jams shut.
I’ve seen them a lot passing through recently....if there are days not covered by a regular looker, I could blog when I see them...could you post which days have no one allocated. Thanks

    Wednesday, 30 October 2019

    Oct 30
All seen grazing at the top of the field near the ford.
    Carole

    Sunday, 27 October 2019

    Oct 27
    All seen and looking well.

    Friday, 25 October 2019

    October 25

I have moved the sign from the middle gate to the corral end gate ...which was open. We still need one for The Pondtail Road gate, please. I saw two in the deep gorse. Will they be getting a lick? If so, could it be placed near a gate to give us a start point for the searches!

    Thursday, 24 October 2019

    October 24

All well, though 170 and 167 seem to have lost the ground they had gained. I found them by the corral gate...which has no sign on it and walkers are inclined to leave it open. I didn’t see a sign on the Pondtail gate either. I could take one from the middle gate but we still need one more. I struck lucky in finding them today but the original reason for closing the gate was to give the lookers a sporting chance of finding them, but I appreciate that some lookers have much bigger enclosures to search...

    Wednesday, 23 October 2019

    Monday 21st

Found the herd all near the gate between sections.  Gave hem some nuts and opened the gate which is now to be left open for the winter to give them adequate forage.

    October 23 Gate open..?officially?

The gate between the two enclosures is open. I couldn’t close it as it’s been pushed over bushes...perhaps intentionally by the team visit yesterday? But I wondered if there is a time that must elapse before they can go where the Hart herd were...The notice is still on the gate. The girls were near the gate but not through it.

    Thursday, 17 October 2019

    October 17

All well and looking a little fatter. I found the red and 166 near the north kissing gate and the others were in the impenetrable gorse...so thick that 170 had to go in reverse to find room to turn and leave me behind. There isn’t much grass left in general ( why isn’t it growing well...my lawn is doing nothing) and the pines have been trimmed.

    Monday, 14 October 2019

    Sunday 14 October
    All seen happily grazing.
    Carole

    Friday, 11 October 2019

    October 11

All well, grazing south of the medical dump fence. It’s not my day but I missed yesterday...having trouble reprogramming having changed to Thursday.... For the record, I saw them in passing on Sunday and Tuesday but forgot to blog... old age doesn’t come alone...

    Wednesday, 9 October 2019

    Wednesday 9th October.

Found the cattle in E10 this afternoon. One of the British Whites was laying down while the other three cattle were grazing. All looking well.

    Thursday, 3 October 2019

    October 3

All well, found on the eastern edge of the cleared area.

The migrant cattle from Hart seem to have been repatriated. If the cowpat on the towpath was theirs, they went a long way!

Carole, are you the lady I met on the towpath?

    Wednesday, 2 October 2019

2 whites and the brown spotted lying down in the thick undergrowth.

    Tuesday, 1 October 2019

    Sunday, 29 September 2019

    Sunday
All 4 seen grazing at the bottom of the field. Did one of them escape as there is a very fresh cowpat on the canal footpath?!
    Carole

    Thursday, 26 September 2019

    Thursday

They took a bit of finding today but eventually found all four deep in the gorse over towards the canal.

    All looked fine.

    September 26

All well. I found them eventually, by the canal path fence at the Pondtail bridge end. They look plumper except for 170 who maybe spends too much energy being bossy...

    Wednesday, 25 September 2019

None spotted today. They must be lying low. Carole

    Sunday, 22 September 2019

    Sunday 22 Sept.
All seen yesterday and today grazing at the lower end of the field alongside the canal.
    Carole

    Thursday, 12 September 2019

    Wednesday, 11 September 2019

    Wednesday 11th
All 4 spotted in the distance at the canal end of the field.
    Carole

    Wednesday all ok

Found them by the gate together looking well.

    Saturday, 7 September 2019

    Sept 7

I will be away the week after next so will miss lookering on Thursday19. Today, I saw the girls in passing...all well. I will put the sign I took down, back up on the South Gate.

    Friday, 6 September 2019

What a lovely lil herd 😊 Very nice temperament. All found lying down in F10.

Brit White heiffer 168 has what appears to be an old wound in her left eye (grey mark). Will monitor it for next week but doesn't appear to shos any NFE symptons whet so ever so hopefully all good.

    Cattledrink good.

Also of note is that the cannal has had a serioys chop back of vegetation along that whole side and rather annoyingly have left quite a bit hanging over our fence line. Thankfully the girls don't apoear to be overly interested as there's loads of fodder in PT.

12th November COWS OFFSITE (Grazing team)
