Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    October 31

All well. While I was with them by the corral gate, they were harassed by a retriever...they backed away at first but then faced up to it. I gave it the Eye and it retreated.
Is there a notice on the Pondtail gate yet. I forgot to look as I went through. It also doesn’t latch properly though it jams shut.
I’ve seen them a lot passing through recently....if there are days not covered by a regular looker, I could blog when I see them...could you post which days have no one allocated. Thanks

I have moved the sign from the middle gate to the corral end gate ...which was open. We still need one for The Pondtail Road gate, please. I saw two in the deep gorse. Will they be getting a lick? If so, could it be placed near a gate to give us a start point for the searches!

    October 24

All well, though 170 and 167 seem to have lost the ground they had gained. I found them by the corral gate...which has no sign on it and walkers are inclined to leave it open. I didn’t see a sign on the Pondtail gate either. I could take one from the middle gate but we still need one more. I struck lucky in finding them today but the original reason for closing the gate was to give the lookers a sporting chance of finding them, but I appreciate that some lookers have much bigger enclosures to search...

    Monday 21st

Found the herd all near the gate between sections.  Gave hem some nuts and opened the gate which is now to be left open for the winter to give them adequate forage.

    October 23 Gate open..?officially?

The gate between the two enclosures is open. I couldn’t close it as it’s been pushed over bushes...perhaps intentionally by the team visit yesterday? But I wondered if there is a time that must elapse before they can go where the Hart herd were...The notice is still on the gate. The girls were near the gate but not through it.

    October 17

All well and looking a little fatter. I found the red and 166 near the north kissing gate and the others were in the impenetrable gorse...so thick that 170 had to go in reverse to find room to turn and leave me behind. There isn’t much grass left in general ( why isn’t it growing well...my lawn is doing nothing) and the pines have been trimmed.

    October 11

All well, grazing south of the medical dump fence. It’s not my day but I missed yesterday...having trouble reprogramming having changed to Thursday.... For the record, I saw them in passing on Sunday and Tuesday but forgot to blog... old age doesn’t come alone...

    Wednesday 9th October.

Found the cattle in E10 this afternoon. One of the British Whites was laying down while the other three cattle were grazing. All looking well.

    October 3

All well, found on the eastern edge of the cleared area.

The migrant cattle from Hart seem to have been repatriated. If the cowpat on the towpath was theirs, they went a long way!

Carole, are you the lady I met on the towpath?

2 whites and the brown spotted lying down in the thick undergrowth.
